This website aims to provide some insight into the roles of a Certified Medical Lab Assistant (CMLA) and their significance, and explain how our roles can directly affect patient care. It is designed to be user-friendly and allow anyone to educate themselves on CMLA roles and responsibilities. We discuss in detail how our work is intertwined with other disciplines and what that entails, gaining first-hand experience and stories from real-life people!

Phlebotomy is important because CMLA's collect blood for blood tests, which allows physicians to appropriately and accurately diagnose and treat patients. Blood tests can detect certain infections or risk factors early on, allowing the patient to receive a proactive diagnosis and treatment plan. CMLAs are responsible for maintaining a sample's integrity before, during, and after the blood is collected and transported.
We are three students currently enrolled in the CMLA program at Camosun College, which is located on the territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Kosapsum) and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. This website reflects our learning journey as we delve deeper into the fascinating world of medical laboratory science and phlebotomy. We are excited to share our knowledge and hope you find this website informative and engaging!
